What is a booger?

Welcome! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed for free updates. Thanks for visiting!

Not long ago my kids and I stumbled across a fun website called KidsHealth.org. It will handle just about any medical question or issues about the body. Shoot, I find things that I didn’t even know!

They have it sectioned out by Parents, Kids and Teens. We spend the majority of the time in the kids section. WAY cooler!

I’ve got a nose-picker in the family. *cough10-year-oldcough* I’ve had quite enough of it. I’ve nagged and nagged until I can’t nag no more! So we looked up, ‘What is a Booger‘. The article was very easy for him to read and he actually learned logical information that helped him stop. Ok, so we’re about half way there. ;-)

Of course, now him and his brother are trying to find the grossest articles they have to read, but they’re boys…it’s all a part of that whole testosterone thing.

Yucky boys…Things I Love Thursday
[Disclaimer: I found this site the good ol' fashion way. They have no idea who I am.]

WFMW – Cooking with Spices

Indian spice

Image via Wikipedia

I am not a cooking connoisseur in any way, shape or form. But growing up in India has definitely taught me a little something about spices. The one thing I see a lot of here in the States are people who I call Sad Spice. [Spice Girl pun totally intended]. Sad Spice-ers are people who put their spices in ‘the pot’ half way through or near the end of the cooking time. That is totally wasting those spices’ time.

Be bold!

If the dish is anything at all, you’ll need to saute onion’s and garlic in oil at the beginning. Then throw in the spices. Let them infuse in the oil mixture for about a minute before adding the rest of the ingredients. Adding the spices at the front of the steps gives the dish the fullest flavor of those spices. It becomes the soul of the dish. For those of you who are frugal, this means using less amount of spice and getting more out of it.

Try it…I guarantee that you’ll get a much heartier flavor from those dishes.

Down Syndrome birthday’s are more fun

Hulkman's B-dayYesterday might have been Valentine’s Day for everyone else in the world, but in our family, it was Hulkman’s birthday. In my brother’s mind that means the world comes to a crashing stop and makes much a-do about this particular birthday. I actually think he believes it’s Valentine’s Day because it’s his birthday!

Every year, for 43 years, it’s been the same. Our family’s birthdays are one each month from October to February. Unfortunately for Hulkman, he’s the last on the list. For the rest of us, that means he’s going to talk about his birthday every single day from October 1st through February 14th. It’s like a 3 year old on steroids. If nothing else, he is consistent. We love February 14th, because that means we can FINALLY celebrate his birthday and get some peace for a few months. ;-)

He really doesn’t require much for his birthday. Phone calls, cards, and big hugs and kisses. Oh, and of course any of the latest movies out on DVD that have slow motion and big explosions.

Hulkman, as is the majority of people with Down Syndrome, very loving. They are truly angels on earth. I cannot imagine my live without Hulkman. He has taught me more about forgiveness, unconditional love and acceptance more than any self-help book or motivational speaker with 3 PhD’s ever could. Hulkman b-day b/w

I’m thrilled we got to celebrate another year with Hulkman. I look forward to many more conversations with him (or Jesus or MacGyver or whoever he decides to be on that day).
