For this Southern girl, I can’t handle that kind of cold. But what I did take away was some incredible recipes for warming up the soul.

One of my favorites is this Chicken and Noodle dish. It’s not a soup and it’s supposed to be poured over mashed potatoes. {Hello! Can you say Carb Overkill?? — It’s a stick-to-your-ribs kinda meal!} However you eat it, bottom-line is it’s YUM!

Easy Chicken and Noodles

1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can chicken broth
1 can shredded chicken
1 bag Reame’s Frozen Egg Noodles (or I use a couple handfuls of Amish noodles)

Add chicken, soups and broth to a pot and bring to a boil. Add egg noodles and cook on med/low heat for 45 minutes (until noodles are done). Season to taste.

Easy-peasy!!

We just got back from a WONDERFUL vacation in South Dakota, but wanted to sneak in a quick Works for Me Wednesday post, because this tip saved our vacation!

Gremlin, unfortunately, has the worst cases of growing pains. He gets them 2–3 times a week and the more active he is during the day, the worse they are at night. We have some natural rubbing lotion that works but not real quick and we left it at home (ugh!). Then a relative told me to give him a teaspoon — tablespoon of mustard. Good old-fashion yellow mustard. It’s a kicker going down, but it stops the cramping almost immediately! No lie!

Isn’t that something?!

I would’ve loved if someone would’ve shared this with me years ago, so I hope this helps someone!

Oh how I love a good recipe carnival! AndI have a ton of favorite summer recipes, but these are making me drool right this very minute! If you dig (or digg) any of these, be sure to use my “Print Friendly” button at the bottom of the post so you get to print exactly what you need.

Enjoy!!

Monkey Bread
(I must have easy versions in the morning…this is that recipe.)

2 cans refrigerated biscuits
2/3 c. sugar
2T cinnamon
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. apple butter
Separate biscuits and quarter each one (1/4th). Combine sugar + cinnamon and roll biscuit pieces in mix to coat. Drop evenly into greased Bundt pan. On stove, melt butter, brown sugar and sugar to a boil to dissolve sugar. Remove from heat and stir in apple butter. Pour over dough and bake @ 350 for 30 minutes. Let stand 10 min and turn upside down on serving plate. Serves 8–12.

Flock of Geese Chicken Salad
(I have no idea what geese have to do with chicken!)

2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken
2 c red, seedless grapes
2 stalks celery, diced
2 c salted cashews
3/4 c mayo
1/2 c sour cream
1 T red wine vinegar
Combine first 4 ingredients in large bowl. Combine mayo, sr cream and vinegar in separate bowl. Pour over chicken mixture. (You can also use diced onions, if it tickles you.)

Sunny Summer Lemonade

6 c white grape juice, chilled
1 (12-oz) can frozen lemonade, concentrate, thawed/undiluted
5 1/2 c club soda, chilled
Stir all ingredients together in a 1 gallon pitcher or punch bowl. Serve over ice. Yields 3 quarts.

Peanut-Butter Balls
(I grew up on these delicious balls!)

1/2 c. peanut butter
1/4 c honey
2 T softened butter
3/4 c toasted wheat germ
3/4 c. instant nonfat dry milk
Stir the first 3 ingredients together. Mix in the wheat germ and dry milk. Shape into 1 inch balls; chill. Yields 18–20 balls.

This week’s WFMW carnival is about sharing your favorite summer recipes. Hop on over there for more wonderful goodies!

I adore Firefox. I do not love it when it crashes…when I have 20 gazillion tabs open, but that’s definitely a special error. Code# ID-10T.
*cricket*ifyouhavetoexplainititsnotfunny*cricket*

The Add-Ons make my blogging/writing life so much easier. Some of my favorite are:

easyComment — no more filling out comment info fields over and over.

WiseStamp — great use of social bookmarking and email signatures.

Colorzilla — gives you the HEX# for any color on your monitor.

But the one I use the most is Foxtab. I know that a lot of people use it in place of their bookmarks, but for me I use it as my Must-Research-Further/Want-to-Dig-in-More placeholder.

For example, the other day I was researching some blogs regarding B2B practices. I found a few so I added them to my Top Sites (Foxtab) to come back later and really dig into what they were saying. I bookmark the ones that I come back to more often.

Mozilla is always adding more Addons…be sure to check them out from time to time. A little time in research can make your life a WHOLE lot easier in the long run.

My neighbor stopped by yesterday and I was telling her about my worry about having too many cucumbers and “WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH ALL THESE CUCUMBERS?!?” She was a saint and forwarded me some info about all the many uses of a cucumber. I haven’t tried these all out, but can’t wait to! Some of these are amazing and thought this was perfect info for a WFMW post:

1. If you feel tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.

2. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance.

3. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few slices in a small pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.

4. Looking for a fast and easy way to remove the look of cellulite before going out or to the pool? Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your problem area for a few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite. Works great on wrinkles too!!!

5. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and headache!!

6. Cucumbers can help fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge. Cucumbers have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and explores for quick meals to thwart off starvation.

7. Polish your shoes with a cucumber. Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the shoe, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks great but also repels water.

8. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? Take a cucumber slice and rub it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!

9. Cucumbers relieves stress and is cheaper than a spa treatment! Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber will react with the boiling water and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has been shown to reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final exams.

10. Just finish a business lunch and realize you don’t have gum or mints? Take a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phytochemcials will kill the bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.

11. Looking for a ‘green’ way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel? Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but it won’t leave streaks and won’t harm your fingers or fingernails while you clean.

12. Using a pen and made a mistake? Take the outside of the cucumber and slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and markers that the kids have used to decorate the walls!!

If you know of any other things cucumbers are great at, please let me know in the comments…I’ll have about 1,000 cucumbers to try it out with.
