Thanksgiving is over.

Black Friday is over.

Christmas is here.

YEAH!

So far, we have just enjoyed the beginning of this season. There hasn’t been a rush in putting all the decorations up on the same night or rushing around doing this or that. We put the outside lights up last weekend (it was just too warm not to!), I’ve got the tree in the living room up with lights but nothing else and the Christmas cards have come in. It actually feels like I’ve got my act together without trying too hard. I’m even leaving for California for the weekend and I’m STILL not stressed about “getting everything done in time”.

It’s a great feeling for a change.

I can’t help but giggle when I think of the guys bacheloring it all weekend. J will be fine…the boys aren’t quite as confident though. HA! They always end up doing fine, but I’m sure some things in my kitchen will be missing. Every time I leave on a trip, I come back to less things in the kitchen…not sure how that keeps happening.

I’m heading out to spend some time with my grandparents…just Mum and I doing a road trip.  (This is where you don’t say, “Ah…how nice.” Instead you should fidget a bit.) Mum and I are bit like Thelma and Louise in airports.  We’ll never make it through  TSA without SOME kind of issue.  Mum’s metal hip will be the death of us all. If not her hip, then some other prosthetic thing-a-ma-jig.

At least I’ll have something blog about!

I had this great post all about the differences of the regular Influenza A flu bug compared to the H1N1 flu bug…but you know?  Who cares? They both bite.

I’ve had Gremlin home with the HINNEY flu since Sunday and today Oldman is home with a fever.  Wanna guess what he might have? For the last month we have one kind of flu or another.

Not that I believe in jinxes, cause I’m a faith-based person (Hmmm…faith-based jinxes? Now there’s a sermon!) but I’m seriously thinking there’s a connection between their flu and my post recently about having a Flexible Attitude and J praying for patience (Hello! Everyone knows you don’t do that!).

I’m just trying to understand the correlation between the number of spills to the flu. Does it cause a twitch that makes you spill your OJ every 15 minutes? Does the H1N1 make you pick up your Jello with your fingers and squish it like a 2yo while laying in Mom’s bed?

Things that make you go ‘hmmmmm’.

So please excuse me as I try to go find a happy place for just 5. stinkin. minutes.

Oh, and in case I miss it…Happy Trick-or-Treating!

I got up at the crack of dawn this morning. I wish I didn’t do that on a Saturday, but so be it.

I probably should be doing something around the house.

My ficus tree is in serious need of  a new pot. But I need the strong hubs help on that one.

I probably should clean up after a wonderful impromptu dinner with my brother and sister-in-law. But…nah!

I don’t nearly make enough time for reading other people’s blogs.  I miss that.  I love the blogging community and being able to read and comment is really some of my favorite times.

So that’s what I’m doing.  Well, in just a few seconds I will.

Do you remember the moment you realized you just knew what you wanted to do for a career?

For me it was in 10th grade. My English teacher started the year out saying, “By now you should have some idea of the direction you want to go. You have 1 week to pick something and start writing about it.”

I freaked.

I had never thought about it! I was one of those air-headed take-one-day-at-a-time kind of girl. I barely knew what the word ‘future’ meant.  Plus I had just transferred to that school from a private school and no one talked about life after high school there.

To be quite honest, I guess I knew from the moment she started talking about it.  She even wrote it on the chalkboard….which almost seemed like fate (like, oh my gosh, for sure!!!)

“Communications’

The guy beside me asked, “What kind of job is that?”

She wrote, “Communications – broadcasting / journalism / public relations / marketing”

The tingle sparked at the base of my brain and ran down my spine. (Yes, I was a loser in high school.)

So I went to college pursuing a degree in Communications with an emphasis in Broadcasting.  I was going to be the next Barbara Walters!

Then I discovered politics.

Oh no, not the real politics. Just the one that slaps a little reality in your world. I hadn’t even finished my first year in college when I found out the politics in broadcasting.

No, thank you.

Many, many years later I ended up coming back full circle in the communication side of things. The whole point of my embracing the idea of Communications is that I love people.  Man, there are some wack-a-doodle-doo’s out there…and that’s intriguing.

The underlying part to communication is always the written and verbal word. I do the verbal thing all day long, but crave the written word.  So this year I decided to branch out a little bit back into that side of communication.  This blog has been great for it, but I’ve really lost ‘the touch’ and need to exercise that out again.

So I’m writing for Blissfully Domestic.  My first article went up yesterday. I’m very excited about it because Blissfully Domestic is a great organization that is ran by some great ladies. I’m thrilled they are letting me sharpen my ‘typing pen’ with them.

I’d love any feedback you might have. I’m a true believer that ‘iron sharpens iron’ and any honing is welcome!

In the process of finding my MoJo, I’ve discovered a love for simple things and a more simpler life.  Everything from growing plants from my own hands to just sitting with my boys and learning how their brain works.

Once I chose to sit down and just open my mind to find new loves and interests it was like a floodgate. It was like I was barely scratching the surface of the things I loved and now my eyes were open to what more it could entail.

One of those things is pottery.  Sounds simple enough but when you realize that a each good piece of pottery is unique. From the exact form, to the color glazes. I love the stoneware with blues in it.  Not just the blue and browns or the blue and reds. But a mixture of each.  What a great set that would make!

Unfortunately the downside to the unique upside is that there are SO MANY customed ideas that it’s hard to find one place that sells everything I might like.  I’m such a newbie too so that’s taking a lot of time.

If you have a favorite local place that sells online, I’d love to check it out. At this point, my favorite has been Silver Dollar City’s Pottery Store. Unfortunately, they don’t sell online, but their pottery is exactly what I love.

So slowly but surely I hope to start collecting pieces to add to my hutch. I excited to work on this lengthy project!
