Growing a community

TeenParenting

Shame on me.

Shame on me for not trying to be the community that I, myself was looking for. For over a year, I have all but quit blogging. It happens. Life gets complicated. Busy. And you lose touch with the group of people that you connected so tightly to.

In my case, I did what so many other bloggers do. Their kids start to become teenagers and they stop blogging. I’m not sure if it’s harder to blog about the kids because conversations are so much deeper than, “I don’t know why the mailman wears funny looking shorts.”

They don’t exactly want every picture posted…you could totally destroy their rep! 😉 Their hormones leave you and them exhausted.

And that’s just your Average Joe teen. What if they have ADD, depression, social anxiety, Tourrettes, etc?

In no way am I saying raising a child is easier than a teenager. I don’t think there is a comparison. I don’t even remember half of my day-to-day raising of the boys. I forgot for a reason! 😉

All that being said, I wish there had been more of us that stayed blogging so we could tackle this together. I don’t care if they’re homeschooled, unschooled, ala Americana or raised half way around the world. Teenagers are teens. Period.

I was reading a blog post from a dear friend who is tackling this very issue on her blog and she’s doing a fabulous job. Reading her post reminded me that I hadn’t exactly stuck around either. {ouch} So I’m taking the challenge.

I still want to honor the private lives of my boys and husband, but I will be upfront and as honest as I can about the joys and struggles of parenting teens. My guys bring me such great delight and I can’t imagine my life without them. I only have them for a few more years. I can’t wait to journal my days of teen parenting through to an empty nest.

I want to add more teen parenting blogs to my blogroll, so if you know of any please let me know.

As always, thank you for your accountability and friendships!
