Doing What You Love

For the first time in almost a year, I was able to work the entire day on just what I love to do…social media strategy. I bought a company to be able to do this every day, as a job instead of as a hobby. As most business owners know, you always end up doing whatever it takes to get the job done. I feel like I’ve been doing everything. I don’t mind it entirely, but it’s not my love.

I read a quote on Pinterest the other day that said (kind of sort of in a way):

Want to know where your heart lies?…what do you think about when your mind wanders…that’s it.

I think of Twitter chats I’m missing, short-term and long-term goals for social media clients and Boundless, and how to tweak those goals weekly. It actually sounds a bit geeky in writing, but it’s what I love.

And today felt fulfilling for the first time in ages.

Before the guilt of “what about your family?” comes in – my family will thank me for doing what I love. They know what’s like being around a frustrated momma who is working like a dog doing something that just needs to be done.  Don’t get me wrong…as I teach my boys…sometimes you just have to do what needs to be done because that’s life.  So when you do get to do what you love, it’s so much more rewarding!

~My back doesn’t ache – I got up about every hour and stretched/taught Londin/rough-housed with the dogs.
~My headache went away without medicine – Adrenaline is an amazing thing!
~My patience with Oldman was actually present – Yeah!

I look forward to more of these days in 2012!

  • Oh my goodness… the more I read this post, the more of a smile I got on my face. I could just feel that ‘great day’ through your writing. Some day, I hope to spend days doing what I love.
By the way, I’m geeky too… we can be geeky together 😉 I love and am fascinated by social media. Have you ever heard of the book “The Linked Photographers’ Guide to Online Marketing and Social Media”? Trust me, it applies to any business, not just photography.
