The Perfect Start of Spring

The smell of freshly cut grass.

Beautiful, rich dirt with fresh flowers planted.

Bushes freshly sheared to the perfect shape.

Then the rain comes…

I love working the earth with my hands all day, then sitting on the porch smelling the rain come in. As soon as the first drops of a Spring rain hits the earth, you can immediately breath in the rich pungent smell of dirt, the tangy clean smell of grass as well as the sense of fresh rain in the area.

Soon — after the first new moon in May — I’ll start planting our veggie garden. I can’t wait. We’ve already planted the lettuce, onions and strawberries. I really want to plant asparagus, but have absolutely no patience to wait a few years for that. The Farmers Garden will have to be my suppliers for that and corn this year.

Ahhhh…the perfect start of Spring.

  1. I LOVE this time of year! Now that we have two new furry friends in our backyard, we are going to have to do something different with our veggies this year.

  2. My son and I planted stargazer bulbs around the mailbox a mere week ago, and yesterday he screamed, “Mommy, come quick!” Sure enough, there were two tiny baby “warheads” poking through the earth. Absolutely miraculous.

I am obsessed with veggie gardens. Obsessed with dirt. Obsessed with dirty fingernails and flowers.
    We should be friends.
    I love this post.

  5. See, I am one of those gals that likes to look at pretty flowers but play in the dirt…not so much. You make it sound so fun though!
