Bread Pudding with Lemon Sauce

Bread pudding is not my gig. Sorry…but I really think it’s because I get caught up in the whole pudding-but-it’s-not-really-pudding thing. All that being said, there is ONE recipe that makes me swoon.  And in all honesty, it’s more the sauce with the pudding than the pudding recipe itself.

Bread Pudding

6 cups bread cubes
1 qt. of milk
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
2 T. butter
3/4 — 1 cups sugar
Can add raisins, dates, nuts, cinnamon
Pinch of nutmeg

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour in a casserole dish.

Lemon Sauce

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup water
1 egg, well beaten
3/4 t. grated lemon peel
3 T. lemon juice

Combine all ingredients in medium saucepan. Heat to boiling over medium heat, stirring constantly. Serve warm. (Makes 1 1/3 cups)

    I’m so happy.

Two of my rules in life:
If bread pudding is on the menu, I order it.
If lemon tart is on the menu, i order it.

They never co-exist on menus, lucky for me.

But this…THIS!!! Sheer Genius. I am ecstatic and canna wait to go to the grocery store.
