Adolescent book series

Confession: I was horrible at reading to my children when they were tiny guys. I couldn’t get them to sit still on my lap so why fight it? Once they got to about 4, they were ready and so was I. I started reading to them every night before going to bed. My youngest son deals with nightmares a lot but I noticed when I would read exciting stories to him before he fell asleep, the nightmares stayed away.

So now they’re 6 and 10 and we still read almost every night before they drift off to sleep. We’ve moved from cute little books to adventure series. Some of our favorites — heavy on the ‘our’ because my husband and I are pretty much immature like that:

Artemis Fowl
H.I.V.E
39 clues
The Keys to the Kingdom

This list is obviously for kiddos who are very much into super cool fights, saving the day and all that jazz.

What series would you add to this list? We’re always looking for something new.

This week Works For Me Wednesday is over at Rocks In My Dryer.

Harry Potter always tops our list! And when the kids were in like grades 1–3 or so we loved Magic Tree House.
